This Ramadan, Give Where The Need is Greatest
Since 2015, Culture of Health – Advancing Together (CHAT) has been a safe haven for thousands of newcomers from around the globe. Houston is home to the greatest number of new refugees in the United States regularly. In fact, on average, 30 of every 1,000 refugees resettled by the United Nations is resettled in Harris County. A significant number of these families make up the 45,000 individuals from more than 80 countries who speak more than 50 languages, that call the Gulfton area home.
That is where CHAT is their most trusted ally. The nonprofit organization advocates for the wellbeing and access to resources of the roughly 15,486 residents per square mile that live in Gulfton.
CHAT believes by fostering the health and well-being of immigrant and refugee communities through the education, arts, advocacy, and access to care, it can help build a healthy community that is self-sufficient and capable of meeting the everyday challenges of living in a diverse society.
Why give with CHAT during Ramadan?
When families are uncertain about where to go for help or how to navigate this new city, our staff and volunteers are there to guide them. When new students, especially school-age girls, find it difficult to adjust due to a general gap in services, our staff and volunteers are there to provide social and emotional support. When parents are unable to assist their children with homework and other basic needs, our afterschool and in-school programs are where they turn to get assistance – in their own language and culture. When local government and outreach service providers need to engage Houston’s immigrant and refugee community, CHAT is who they reach out to get the job done.
Our work is volunteer-based and dependent on your support.
This Ramadan, give to an organization impacting those with the most need right here in our community.
